Listed at $5,900, the peel 3D is a reasonably priced 3D scanner that is surprisingly capable of capturing high-quality 3D models, making it the perfect entry-level tool for projects that must comply with a strict budget. It’s cheap, compact, and seems to be quite functional, but does the peel 3D scanner match up to pricier 3D scanning systems like the Artec Eva and EinScan Pro 2x?
There’s another element to screen control that works a treat too. It’s called Magic Press, which you can think of like Apple’s 3D Touch, but formed with different intentions for its gaming focus. A firmer press on screen will trigger a different assigned action. The software permits a left/right screen division, though, where sensitivity can be software set between 1-7 for how sensitive the screen will be to a press. That’s gaming grade customisation right there, delivered in an easy-to-use format.
The 3D Sense is a capable scanner, but it is limited by the capabilities of the scanning system it employs. The PrimeSense sensor it uses is capable of decent resolution, but it can’t detect and resolve the same level of fine detail that scanners like the MakerBot Digitizer or the David SLS-1 can; it just isn’t suited for scanning the smaller objects that these printers can. It can’t scan very large objects (bigger than about 10 feet), either, so it is best suited for subjects like people and statues. For these types of things, the 3D Sense does a great job of creating a decent 3D model. The process of scanning has its quirks, but it is generally easy to do once you figure them out, and it produces attractive 3D objects that can be quickly and easily printed.
